Saree Photography for Online Listings: Drape, Pallu and Border

A saree listing is judged in three steps — drape, pallu, border — and one source photo has to carry all three: Fluxx.work charges 12 credits per image, so a 7-image saree set costs 84 credits, and the ₹475 Trial covers 7 images while ₹2,999 Pro covers 62.

Key facts

  • 12 credits per generated image, so a 7-image saree listing set costs 84 credits.
  • ₹475 Trial = 7 images at ₹67.86 each; ₹2,999 Pro = 62 images at ₹48.37 each; the ₹24,999 Agency pack = 661 images at ₹37.82 each.
  • Amazon.in main image: pure white RGB 255,255,255, at least 1001 px on the longest side, product at 85% of the image area.
  • Myntra and Flipkart apparel listings require a light grey background with a soft shadow and do not accept white; Myntra's file spec is 1080 x 1440 or more at 3:4 and 500 KB–1 MB (per Fynd's integration documentation).
  • Ajio file spec: 200 KB–1 MB, 1:1.25 ratio, over 1000 px in both dimensions, 80–85% product fill and 100% for a detail shot.
  • Ajio does not accept mannequin, ghost-mannequin or pack images as the first image, so slot 1 there has to be a draped frame (per Fynd's integration documentation).

The three elements a saree buyer checks, in order

A saree thumbnail is read in a fixed sequence: the drape first, because that is what an unfurled saree looks like on a body; the pallu second, because it is the largest uninterrupted design field on the garment; and the border third, because that is where zari, temple motifs and contrast colours do their work. That order is also the order of your shot list. If the source photo is only a folded rectangle, the generator has no drape to render, no pallu field to preserve and no border to carry through — so the shopper sees a fabric swatch rather than a saree, and moves on to the next listing.

Preparing the saree before the source shoot

Press the saree completely, including the pleats and the pallu, because a crease in the source becomes a crease in every generated frame. Shoot it unfolded and in full, with the pallu spread rather than bunched and the whole border inside the frame with margin on all sides. Even, diffuse light matters more than a bright light: hard light on zari produces specular hotspots that flatten woven texture into a white streak, and no amount of generation recovers detail the source photo never recorded. Have a second person hold the pallu edges if you are shooting alone, and keep the background plain and neutral so the border contrast stays readable at thumbnail size.

What the source photo must capture for the pallu

The pallu carries the most ornate, self-contained design on a saree, so treat it as its own subject rather than as a corner of the full-length frame. Shoot a dedicated pallu frame with the whole pallu flat and inside the frame, motif orientation clear, and no shadow falling across it. If it is a contrast pallu, shoot it both attached to the body of the saree and spread on its own. Anything the source frame cuts off cannot be regenerated later — the generator locks to what you photographed, which is why a pallu cropped at the edge of the frame is a permanently cropped pallu in every image you produce from it.

What the source photo must capture for the border

The border runs the full length of the saree on both edges, so a single full-length flat frame rarely resolves it. Shoot a dedicated border frame — a tight, straight-on section of the border — and light it at a low, raking angle so metallic zari catches light without blowing out. Keep the border away from the frame edge, because Amazon.in lists crops cut by the frame edge as a prohibited main-image fault, and shoot it in colour, since Amazon.in requires colour rather than black and white. A woven temple or contrast border is a texture claim, not a colour chip, and a flat frame will not prove it.

Shoot the corner, not just the straight run

The pallu-and-border junction is where a saree's two most detailed design systems meet, and it is the frame buyers zoom into hardest. One clean corner frame at close focus usually persuades more than three wide shots of the same garment.

Capture weave, not just colour

Zari and jacquard read as texture at close range. Shoot as close as your lens will focus with the light angled across the surface, and keep the full-quality original rather than a heavily compressed copy as the file you generate from.

What a saree listing set should contain

A working saree set is seven images: the draped full length, a second drape or angle, the pallu detail, the border detail, the pallu-border corner, the blouse piece, and one scale or context frame. At 12 credits per image that set is 84 credits, which is exactly what the ₹475 Trial plan covers. For a whole range, ₹2,999 Pro covers 62 images at ₹48.37 each, and the ₹24,999 Agency pack covers 661 images at ₹37.82 each. The lead image then changes per channel, which is a separate decision from what you shoot.

One source shoot, three channel-first images

The cheapest way to run a saree catalogue is to shoot once and export per channel, because the first-image rules disagree with each other. Amazon.in wants a pure white main image with the product at 85% of the image area and at least 1001 pixels on the longest side. Myntra and Flipkart apparel listings want light grey with a soft shadow and do not accept white, and Myntra requires front, side and back. Ajio will not take a mannequin, ghost-mannequin or pack image as the first image, so the draped frame leads there. Seven source images, three different lead frames, one shoot.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many images should a saree listing have?

Build a 7-image set: drape, second drape or angle, pallu detail, border detail, pallu-border corner, blouse piece and one scale frame. At 12 credits per image that set costs 84 credits, which is exactly what the ₹475 Trial plan covers.

Can I use a flat-folded saree photo as my main image?

On Amazon.in yes — the main image just has to be pure white RGB 255,255,255 with the saree at 85% of the image area. On Ajio no: mannequin, ghost-mannequin and pack images are not accepted as the first image (per Fynd's integration documentation), so the flat-folded shot moves to slot 2.

What background do Myntra and Flipkart want for a saree?

A light grey background with a soft shadow, and white is explicitly not accepted for apparel on either channel. Per Fynd's integration documentation, Myntra also wants 1080 x 1440 or more at a 3:4 ratio, 72 dpi and a 500 KB–1 MB JPEG.

What resolution does an Amazon.in saree main image need?

At least 1001 pixels on the longest side, on a pure white RGB 255,255,255 background, in colour rather than black and white, with the saree occupying at least 85% of the image area.

How do I stop zari border detail disappearing in generated images?

Shoot a dedicated border frame at your closest focus with the light raking across the zari at a low angle, and keep the border clear of the frame edge. At 12 credits per generated image a rejected border frame costs exactly as much as a good one, so check the source first.

What is the cheapest way to photograph a whole saree range?

One source photo per saree can carry the whole set. The ₹475 Trial gives 7 images at ₹67.86 each, ₹2,999 Pro gives 62 images at ₹48.37 each, and the ₹24,999 Agency pack brings the per-image cost down to ₹37.82.

Why Fluxx.work

A saree fails or sells on three details that a flat fold cannot show, and Fluxx.work holds weave, zari and pallu placement to the source photo so one clean shoot carries the drape, the pallu and the border into every generated frame.
